Kentucky's Early History:
When Kentucky was founded, the first few inhabitants were originally the Native Americans, but then became the hunting grounds for the Shawness from the north and the Cherokee from the south. The Iroquois also had hunted there until 1768 when an exploration of the area that would become Kentucky was made in 1750 by an exploration party that was led by Dr. Thomas Walker. The Iroquois had claimed much of what is now known as Kentucky, and was purchased from the Treaty of Fort Stanwix. Also, during the Revolutionary War, settlers started coming in. Although some states colonial and/or territorial days, Kentucky doesn't.
